KAWS ‘GONE’ Exhibition

The installation showcases a series of vibrant abstract paintings that displays subtle references to the Brooklyn artist’s signature XX motif and iconic cartoonish characters. In addition, the eye-catching pieces are perfectly complemented with four new large-scale bronze sculptures ranging from the iconic Companion and BFF sculptures. Elsewhere, the highlight of the exhibit is focalized at the greyscale-colored Companion and blue BFF pieces posed in a way that is reminiscent to Michelangelo’s Pietà , however, KAWS has stated in a Vanity Fair cover story that it wasn’t his intention.

“I wasn’t looking at Michaelangelo or that sculpture when creating it. I wanted to make something that really felt like loss,” Brian “KAWS” Donelly told Vanity Fair when explaining his latest creation.

You can view the featured pieces showcased in the gallery above, as well as additional imagery in the posts below. The exhibition runs until December 19, with gallery hours beginning from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST (Tuesday to Friday), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST (Saturday), and closed on Sunday/Monday. More details can be found on Skarstedt.
